To examine the causes of conflict and poverty in Africa by initiating thematic studies in Africa. The outcome of such studies will be documented in all forms that will facilitate the generation and circulation of knowledge; the maintenance of visible presence of civil society in Africa; and progress towards the entrenchment of constitutional processes and the rule of law.

PROMOTING HUMAN SECURITY THROUGH EDUCATION

The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) is non-profit making organization that focuses on human security as one of its core areas of operation. FOSDA is based in Accra and has a regional office in Tamale in the Northern region of Ghana.

ECOWAS CONVENTION ON SMALL ARMS IN FORCE: HOW DO WE FARE?

The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Mohammed ibn Chambas, on 20th November 2009 declared that the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons and Other Related Materials is in force and fully operational after the deposit of the ninth instrument of ratification by the Government of Benin.

FOSDA HOLDS WEST AFRICAN YOUTH IN GOVERNANCE WORKSHOP

At the back of the myriad challenges facing the youth in Africa and its rippling effect on local communities and states , FOSDA, under the West African Human Rights Democratisation (WAHRD) Programme and in collaboration with partners in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Togo, held its first West African Youth in Governance Workshop in January 2010 in  Accra, Ghana.
